And it appears to me that we're currently in a time where only those with the least to complain about enjoy a monopoly on voicing their grievances. Fortunately, that is not the case on this forum, though.

What are the two of you doing? Do you truly not grasp the extreme fumbling irony of whining back and forth to each other ... ostensibly about "whiners"?

I personally suspect Free League probably wants to hear from their customers what their customers want -- and don't want -- to buy. What you call "whining" has already resulted in a positive change: the rebranding of "Second Edition" to "Evolved Edition."

Try to think about the "Angelman and _ArthurDallas_ have the only opinions that matter" vibe that you're giving off, okay?

I can lock it (then it will be buried eventually) if the OP wants to or if people just starts to post nonsens, rants and/or gossips instead of actually discussing what we do know about this evolved edition. I could also rename the thread title, so it isn't so on the nose. My guess is that people will have something new to discuss when the KS starts the 25th.

I don't regret my comments, Jeff Wilder... I was a "whiner" myself at the beginning of this post when the news about the EVOLVED EDITION came out. And I regret it. I believe it's everyone's duty to avoid group contamination.

By the way, it's thanks to you that we have the name "EVOLVED EDITION" with the suggestions you made at the time. Thanks again.

I want to clarify my point: I have nothing to say about customers (of FREE LEAGUE or other products) who write constructive comments or express concerns about the new edition. I accept that. As for the rest, the insulting, useless, unconstructive comments... in short, you understand. I'm not getting into that anymore. I'll let it slide without responding. Well, I mentioned the "whiners", and I'm sorry. We all need to be careful about group contamination. We're all here to have fun and chat about ALIEN, a universe we all love. I left REDDIT because there were too many "haters" and "whiners". That's my message: let's stay positive and constructive.

P.S. You must understand me... it's all in the "tone of the comment". A calm and non-aggressive comment will ALWAYS get your message across more easily to others than taking a tone that is "too direct" and "too slobbery" and "too insulting". Some people should work on that.

I dunno about all that, but it was a concern for me, and I'm really happy FL changed it. It seems to have quieted the furious boil to at least a slow simmer.

I very much appreciate your reply, and I do agree that one of the things that will hurt a community forum is overwhelming negativity. My concern is just that we don't label -- or even think about -- criticism as automatically being overwhelming negativity. Gaming is a lifestyle hobby, and IME gamers tend to react to perceived threats to their beloved games with some ... stridency. I've learned to strip away anything that seems over-the-top to look for any valid criticism below. Even if you're hearing "whining," sometimes -- not always, but sometimes -- whining deserves some sympathy.

Although I've never had a Reddit account because, to me, Reddit is just 4chan with a budget large enough to pay Google for search returns. The wife was part of the Facebook group for Alien (and many other FL games) back in 2019 and left soon thereafter because the Moderator ignored repeated reports of one of his personal friends who leveled homo/transphobic attacks against us thinking she was a he and then when told, turned that into misogynistic vitriol.

These forums have always been well-moderated, but often times useless for balanced information because valid criticism is often lumped in with whining and hating.

Reading fans gush about what they love about something isn't very informative to those who want to read valid criticism before spending their time, money, energy, and resources on something.

I've been part of these forums for almost a decade, but my posting diminished long ago because I see them as far more of an echo chamber of fandom than a reasoned place of full spectrum discussion.

"Lurker" is a term I used in numerous forums from the Big Purple to Citizens of the Imperium to ENWorld to a few far less savory sites on which I registered and rarely posted. But, sadly for that humorous term, even it is jumped on as being passive aggressive or wotnot. So I'll say it this way instead...

I offer my eight farthings as an interested quiet reader: Stamping out criticism because it may breed negativity is an action which leads to a self-feeding saccharine tube.

Good moderators going back to the bygone days before Yahoo Groups was the peak of gaming communiqué are those who can step in and remind folks when necessary of the difference between whining, venting, frustration, and criticism. All are valid at times, but each have scaling values in any meritocracy.

I'll go back to my lurking now. Er, um... quiet reading.
