Not sure... Imagine a hunter with RES 3. Why should I risk loosing my whole capital, if the chance is nearly 60%.
Resources are unpushable, right?
I know that this is not as it works now (although the rules are not 100% clear to be honest).
The reason to add a consequence for Resource Rolls is that if a player, for example, a Hunter with RES 3, that wants to buy something. According to the rules he rolls his three dice to see how much money (or promise of future payment) he has. Lets say that he wants to buy some Hunting Equipment (Availability 2) and he rolls 0 successes. This mean that he can't afford it. If he would have rolled 1 success, then he could have used his Capital (if he still has it) to increase this to 2 and then buy it.
The resource rules in FLs game Svavelvinter is not exactly the same but it is roughly the same. In that game, if you fail a Resource Roll, then to reflect that you have overspent some of your salary this month or gambled them away, your Resource Value is temporary decreased by one step. In our example with the Hunter, he would now for the rest of this Mystery have Resource Value 2.
In Svavelvinter, there is an addition to this rule that is a little bit hard to translate to Vaesen, but it would rougly be like this: if you fail a Resource Roll with only one point, you have a choice, you can buy the item but if you do then, you temporary decrease your Resource Value by one point and if you don't buy it, it stays the same.
So, if we adapt the Vaesen rules with those in Svavelvinter, the example of the Hunter with Resource Value 3 and Capital 1, would go like this if he wants to buy some Hunting Equipment (Availability 2):
* If he rolls two or more successes, he can afford the equipment and that's that.
* If he roll one success only, he can afford it but if he choose to buy it, he will spend a lot of his salary, reflected by temporary lower his his Resource Value to 2 for the rest of the mystery. He can offset this by spending his Capital (1). If he decides not to buy the equipment his Resource Value would still be 3.
* If he rolls no success, he has clearly overspent, gambled away, or something a lot of his salary that he would have access to and to reflect that, his Resource Value is lowered to 2 for the rest of the mystery.
If not using any consequence with the Resource Roll, what would stop the player from trying to buying something else and then something else and then something else, etc.
