The Hidden Combos are optional. If you like it use it if not let it be. I think I will use it for combats with the same amount of fighters on both sides and for melees with very important enemies. But I will wait for the rules to finally decide what to do.

Same here, glad they're making it optional.

Just to lend my voice to the others - I also have reservations about the hidden combo system.  My concern is that it doesn't seem very realistic.  Wouldn't the better your skill as a fighter mean that you could read your opponent better?  With this card system, it seems like a skilled fighter might choose to Stab an enemy, while they're getting ready to Stab back.  Wouldn't that fighter be able to read their intent and instead Parry their blow, rather than trade a series of Stabbing?
I can see a talent that forces the opponent to always show one of their cards before play.

Oh yeah, that would work!

Absolutely! And this a part of the hidden combos system - using specific talents, skilled fighters will be able to read their opponents' moves before they strike.
Also, each melee attack will have an attacker and a defender. If you're the defender and choose to stab, you are taking a risk as the attackers stab will go first and if you take damage from that attack your Stab will be lost due to shock and pain (unless you have the talent to resist pain).
The point that the hidden combo system is only for melee and not ranged combat is certainly valid. We feel however that melee has a bigger part to play in a fantasy title than in scifi games like Mutant: Year Zero and Coriolis, hence it makes sense to expand on it in this game.
On a general note, many of you have expressed reservations about the hidden combo system and we are listening to those as we proceed with the design work. You will also get the chance to try the system out in the Alpha release before it is settled in stone (or on paper, rather). :)

OK, you're convincing me. Now I really want to try it out! ;)

And ignore my "melee" only reservation - absolutely agree that melee should play a bigger part here than in MYZ. Thinking about it a bit more, the lack of the combo system for Ranged combatants is offset by the fact they're probably more likely to hit their targets due to fewer opportunities to dodge / parry / whatever.

The more I hear from you guys, the more excited I get... Now you just need to tell us more information about Strongholds to fully blow my mind.

A Stronghold is a fort, of a sort.
It rhymes, which makes it true.

Yep, I meant I'm looking forward to hearing more detail about how they're implementing the Strongholds here, and seeing how they differ mechanically from MYZ's Arks.
