Re: Scavenging Question

RAW you could scavenge a theoretically infinite EU amount of items, but you'd only ever get max 4 (and more likely 1 or 2) spare parts out of them.

You probably never would as it would be a waste of resources, but if you purposefully wanted to junk every piece of scrap you have so no one else can get their hands on them, one shift of work and you can junk the entire world

One shift of scavenging allows you to scavenge 0-4 spare parts, depending on what you scavenge. If you want to scavenge more, another person could do the same if he also had something to scavenge and you could have an evening shift that continues. Could make a business out of it.

I know it's probably too late, but I would have taken a different approach.

I would have said that an item can gain you a number of parts equal to either its Weight or Front Armor (to a minimum of 1), but it takes a number of Shifts equal to the parts being Scavenged less the successes rolled on your TECH Roll, to a minimum of 1 Shift. If destroyed, the maximum number of parts is havled (rounding up). Once a Tech roll to Scavenge an item has been made, any parts that were not gathered are lost. If you have a large amount of similar items (like a bunch of weapons), you can pool the Weights into a single roll to Scavenge.

So you've got a destroyed M1 Abrams that you want to scavenge. It has 6 parts (11 Front Armor halved is 5.5, rounded up to 6). It will take 6 Shifts to get all the Vehicle parts off, less the success on your Tech Roll. Now, if you only wanted 3 of the parts, you could roll, and if you get two successes, you could get 3 parts in 1 Shift, but the other 3 parts are ruined. If you went for all six, you'd have to spend a maximum of 5 Shifts to get them, but might be able to get them in two (if you managed to roll 4 successes).

I don't think it needs to be that complex.
I'm happy that we're getting a boost in the number of spare parts we can get from breaking down items.

Viperion is... technically correct that a player could say "I'm scavenging 30 AK47s" or "I'm going to go though this parking lot and and scavenge a bunch of vehicles" and get anywhere from 0-4 spare parts from them, and trash the rest. That would be unrealistic as that'd be potential spare parts wasted but the RAW are vague enough that that could work.

On this same note, some of the Player Base Structures that can be collected from, like the Cow Pen, currently have weird times for completing tasks. Milking 1 cow takes a full shift? I can see it being restricted to 1 milking per day, but some of these Base/Camp chores should be combined into 1 shift for multiple tasks.
I do this in real life for fun on the weekends. #SurviveOmega #DoMoreWithLess
