Well, that's what they paid for, didn't they? And I'm saying that sure, you won't risk any serious injuries, but that's assuming you don't get killed right after. :D

I am not going to keep talking in circles with you about this. Try to take it all in.

1) It's a feels bad mechanic.

2) it strips THAT player of THEIR agency with a, kick them while they are down chance that they just flat out die after already surviving that chance.

3) If they have spent points on talents like lucky it kicks them twice.

4) Lucky 3 is the problem. Either don't let players buy lucky 3 or change it so that it doesn't do what it currently does.

It's not a good situation that has anyone walking away from the table with a fun story about what happened. "I got broken and then while I was laying on the ground the DM made a roll and I guess they killed me anyway. Couldn't do anything about it, I guess."

I'm afraid I'll have to disagree with your points.

The player can still crawl, their teammates can still try to heal them or kill the enemy, or do any number of things to the enemy.

The npc or monster can still kill the PC outright even if they have Lucky 2, Lucky 1, or no Lucky at all. What the player is buying is a chance to have a less serious injury.

Play how ever you like. The GM book for forbidden lands has a side bar specifically talking about death and failing forward. If you wish to ignore that good gm advice then have fun.

Killing off downed PC:s is old school. It's a great way to make sure players fear combat. It's not for everybody, but it's right for some.

The leuges way of doing stuff isn't the best way, it's just a way.

There are very few times and places where it would be dramatically and storyline wise appropriate and i would do it. I agree.

What i was saying is doing it off a dice roll to act as a counter to lucky 3 is both mechanically bad and bad GMing. Again, fix the disease. Dont put a band aid on a symptom.

How about....

Lucky only works for the first crit injury in a combat encounter?

Or, if that's still too "OP".....

The first crit injury in a day?

That way.... "agency" is preserved, GM adheres to "League principles", and Lucky is a worthwhile purchase without being overpowered.

Or...

Flip the numbers around like Lucky 2 if you wish, and pick any of the injuries in the three rows above (or one to two rows only if you wish for some lethality to remain).

For even more flexibility, you can spend a number of WP equal to each row thereafter.
