The rules have been updated and now allows for multiple boons and banes. The concept is that there is no math for anyone. Either the lowest die is equal or under the SV (boon), or the highest die is under the SV (bane), or the skill roll fails. No modifiers.

I promise everyone who is worried about this that this is not worth worrying about. I would say, give it a shot trust the process. You might be surprised at where it works, and where it fails. Think of it as a learning experience. You may find you want to use DCs very differently moving forwards, and all the better to have such a great chance to learn. It never hurts to try and see how it feels, from both a player and GM perspective.

A historical note here, DCs are new relatively being around for 23 years of the 52 years that RPGs have been around. The system used in Dragonbane is actually somewhere around 100+ years old and comes from Wargames, where it migrated into a young Dave Arneson's Blackmoore campaign and soon into Greg Stafford's Runequest, Runequest (or the system it uses, called Basic Roleplaying, or BRP) then was licensed to Äventyrsspel who released Drakar och Demoner.

A fun bonus fact, is that the D20 was first introduced as a die that just had 0-9 written on it twice and was used to roll a % much like the D% of today. For multiple reasons the d10 shape we know and love wasn't being manufactured at the time. It is from this that the D20 becomes the popular die of RPGs.

If you think of a d20 as being in increments of 5% just add or subtract a reasonable amount "The crevice you're trying to jump is pretty wide and the edges are loose, add one to your acrobatics roll on this one..."

It's fine if you want to slip down that slope, but the designers have gone very far to discourage the use of any modifiers. I'm easily among the 5% fastest when it comes to this kind of math, but I also find it freeing with small modifiers completely removed from the rules.

I dislike assigning DC with a passion.

If something is trivial we don’t roll. If it’s difficult, we roll. The game has clear rules that give boons and banes. The GM is free to be entirely impartial on this. It is a great luxury, I recommend to enjoy it.

I definitely do not want to see some sort of Difficulty rating. Part of the appeal of this game (for me) is that as a GM I can call for a check and I do not have to set any sort of difficulty and no one needs to add or subtract modifiers. This makes the game even easier to run and play extremely fast.
1. GM calls for a check.
2. Player instantly knows what they need to roll.
I love that! There are dozens (maybe hundreds) of RPG's with degrees of difficulty if that is more a GM's style.
You don't fear the player progression will come to a point were making a check is pointless?

A bane vs skill 18 ? and if the players have a way to negate that bane it becomes even worse :)
example
Dodging an attack from the troll under the bridge in Startingvile holds the same difficulty as dodging an attack from Sabatron the vile darkness, demon of the blackest pit.

but i do agree current form makes the game easy and fast.
The problem here is you are clearly coming from a DnD perspective, percentile roll under systems (dragonbane is one in increments of 5%) rarely use TNs or DCs because skill level is not based on levels or arbitrary GM fiat but rather the characters skill in that task. If you want to have a systenm to make rolls harder look at call of Cthulhu 7e where their are hard (1/2 skill level) or extreme (1/5 of skill level).
