But it's even more interesting to know that you actually have access to poll data, so that you with such certainty can assert that this indeed is a question of 8,000+ backers vs. 1! Perhaps you would like to share the data with the rest of us? Many of us are surely curious!

I sort of had an impression that this might be more like a question of ~1,000 vs. ~1,300 vs. ~1,600 vs. 1,900 vs. ~2,200; divided somehow among "prefer as-is", "wouldn't mind changes, but OK as-is, too", "prefer changes", "don't care; using own world", and "casual backer; have no dog in the race" — but with no idea how many proponents would go into each group.
Those who voice reservations about the current worldbuilding really seem to be addressing pretty much the same points, so the "changes" would appear to go under a single umbrella; there don't seem to be any major subdivisions.

But I was of course only speculating; unlike you, I did not have the hard data.

So more the fool me, I suppose.

As I said, no-one can know how many backers have their stake in each of those categories. It seems to me that one may safely assume the majority — or at least, the largest single group — doesn't really care one way or the other, for various reasons, but that's about it.

The groups that matter within the context of this issue are the ones who actually care — i.e., the ones who actively prefer the current world to any possible alternative, and those who have misgivings about the current world and would prefer to see it amended for plausibility.

And if the former are the larger group, then everything is fine and dandy, of course.

What I find fascinating are the people who are so convinced of the moral superiority of their position, that should the former group turn out to be the "~1,000" and the latter the "~2,200" — which may be the case; nobody really knows — then it still won't matter!
If the smaller group should exclude the larger from being able to enjoy the out-of-the-box game without cringing, then that's perfectly okay. For them.

Since I have already voiced my opinion on this subject, I will now move on to better things, such as learning all the new rules that we have generously been allowed to peek at.
