Re: [ALPHA] "so i am missing x vehicle/gear/weapon"

What I lack so far in hardware is also connected to the worldbuilding. In my view, both the HK G11 and the Strv 141 should be listed, but the way the world currently is written, I can see why particularly the G11 wouldn't be; the Strv 141 still being a bit more questionable.

Now call me silly but what is a strv 141 ? I thought i had a pretty decent check on them but i never heard of that one.

You probably know it as Strv 2000. Had it entered service, it would have been known as the "Strv 141" (first tank with 14cm main gun).

It was going to be the new Swedish MBT to replace the 103 and 104, until the Cold War began fizzling out, at which point a cheaper course of buying a foreign tank was decided upon (as a major break with Swedish Cold War defence procurement policy, according to which critical systems cannot depend on foreign suppliers).
It was the main alternative until 1991, and the formal decision to drop it wasn't made until 1992.
A strv 2000 i know of, but there was never a chance of it entering service so did not even realy take it into consideration, i see it like this, things that has development or delivery dates right at the conflict start for the country who makes it is things thats iffy to be in the game, previous generations that especially in sweden because förvarsbeslut 98 and 2000 did not come would litter our old MOB storages is things like strv 103, pvb 302, ikv 91 and a decent ammount of 104's. During my conscript years in the mech.inf around the actual outbreak of the war (aka around the 2000's) and getting to see some of the mob units prior to removal the bulk of that stuff was rather new storage rather than stuff from the 50's

We had a long discussion about these things and others related to them in the “Swedish Setting” thread.
Looking at the historical sequence of events, had it been clear around 1989-90 that the Cold War was in no hurry to blow over, rather the opposite, then I have difficulty seeing how Strv 141 would not have come about.

But as I said, that was another thread.

As mentioned above the lack of the BMD series (and perhaps the ASU 85 returned from mothballs) given the major role Soviet airborne forces seem to play is weird.

What is also missing is the AA tanks which will be repurposed to ground support (as happened in the real world) as soon as air targets dry up. Basically the Vulcan M163/167 20mm, the Gepard, and of course the ZSU-23-4 that proved so effective during the Chechen war. For a joke you could include the Sergeant York (with a big minus to accuracy).

In fact the ZU-23 should also be a Soviet Weapon given that the KPV is present. Mainly because it is the heaviest direct-fire weapon that can be mounted onto a civilian vehicle turned technical.

As mentioned above the G-11 caseless weapon is missing from German weapons.

The Swedes should have the Swedish K SMG (Carl Gustaf M45) as it was still in service in large numbers in the home guard. In fact there is artwork on page 48 of the Players' Manual showing a Swedish K.

No flamethrowers either.

Also is it my imagination or is the world's most popular civilian round the .22LR missing?

Also there would still be a lot of Recoilless Rifles in service among reserve units and militias.

A rarity score would be a better addition in this kind of game.
Found it on p 88.

Without the G11, at least the G3 should be mentioned on it's own (other Bundeswehr weapons are included)

I don't really see the point of pipe/zip guns. Real small arms are classed as "common".

Missing från Swedish vehicles: TGB 20.

I rather have some more variants than the same stuff duplicated (e.g. Swedish/US weapons). At least for the images with description, separate tables with stats for each nation's weapons make more sense.

Fairly sure the G3 has a listing.

I also would love to see some AAA vehicles, but maybe they would simply be too dangerous!

This is the base game and there is a limit on what you can add in a book. Also, there are more modules plan. What we know is one that focuses on boats, one on cities and one on large battles (if I remember correctly). The base game focuses on Sweden, Poland and the two superpowers. There will also be conversion rules in the book so people who wants to add things from earlier versions can do so and make that available through the Free League Workshop.

We did unlock stretch goal 17 which was 50% more illustrated weapons, vehicles and other gear. Although as we had no idea how many were intended originally we have no idea what that 50% represented.

However there is no harm it mentioning common weapons and vehicles that are currently absent from the game - feedback after all.

Hello,

I will add this in the Dropbox but the one French vehicle that should be in there, because players actually have a chance of encountering it, is the VAB (véhicule de l'avant blindé) - the French equivalent of the Fuchs, but which had a myriad specialized versions (for instance the VAB T20/13 with a 20mm cannon, or the VAB Génie with engineering Equipment). It was a rugged armed (7.62mm or 12.7mm MG) transport, easier to maintain than the AMX 10 P (which is tracked), had NBC protection and was very easy to convert to ... anything (there were versions with a 90mm gun, even attempted conversions with a radar and twin 30mm gun called, I kid you not, the "VADAR"). So, if French troops made it to Germany / Poland, you will find VABs.

If space is missing, it could easily replace the AMX 10 P, which was exclusively found in the armored divisions / brigades. By contrast, VABs were found everywhere: each tank squadron in armored régiments had one "protection platoon" mounted on VABs, and they were used to tow mortars, etc.

M2A2 and M3A2, they were the uparmoured version of the Bradley, (more armor in exchange for the firing ports) and they were predominant by 1990.

Also BMP-2D the uparmoured version of the BMP-2, and the BTR-152... it was obsolete, but common in some WP armies, and certainly still around at the time in CAT-3 division (you still find some in use today).

Also the fluff on the T- series tanks is wrong. The T-72 is not a replacement for the T-64, as the T-80 was not designed to fight alongside the T-72. Actually they were all three in production at the same time more for industrial/political reasons that military efficiency. No one of them is really an improvement over the other, just different designers and political patron, and factories (T-64 Kharkov, T-80 Leningrad, T-72 Chelyabinsk, Omsk, but mainly Nizhny Tagil). There were no Soviet T-72s in Germany for example, they moved from T-62 to T-64, and then T-80. The T-72 should also be cheaper than the T-64 owning to less sophisticate FCS and autoloader. One could also point out that there should be difference between the initial series ad the T-72B and onward (much more armor, better FCS).

also the M1 (turbine) is much faster than the T-64 and T-72 (conventional diesels). The T-80 is a fuel guzzler as the M1.. but in game it has the same consumption as the diesels...

Oh... the T-90 should be there, it was entering serviced in 1990...

Good point, Pskott ... I can't help thinking of Fallout when I look at them.

With real firearms reasonably readily available, why bother with dangerous, unreliable makeshift ones ... better use the space for something that is more proper to the setting.
