Re: So, how do traps work?

I guess we still need to stay away from the old school "I search for traps or secret doors" in every room or wall (or 2m square) like I remember in the first adventures I played many, many years ago.

Maybe as suggested it's a trap role against a relevant skill to either spot a trap that could be triggered or a skill to avoid being affected?
Or you have one person on active trap-finding patrol - that person rolls once for the entire dungeon, and that indicates how well they can spot traps.  This would come with some sort of disadvantage, because they're so focused on looking down/around for traps, maybe a negative modifier to Initiative for any combats in that dungeon, or the like.

Each time a trap is encountered, the Stealth roll for that trap is rolled and compared to the PC's initial Scouting roll.  A single, tiered Talent ("Trapfinder") could grant 1,2 and 3 automatic successes for any Scouting roll to find traps to ensure those who want to be good at finding traps always get a decent Scouting roll.
I make YZE games (https://drivethrurpg.com/browse.php?author=Matt%20Kay) and produce predominately Free League content on my YouTube channel (https://youtube.com/@3skulls)

I like this. It's a drag when players roll for trap spotting in every god damn room. And being able to find them by just saying that you look in the right place doesn't seem right either.
