I’m trying to absorb all the material, and I find this aspect particularly interesting. Would it be unusual for a ship to have a robot/android remaining alert on board during the trip? Seems like this would be a way to have a safeguard watching over the ship.

Presumably ship intelligences are awake during the portal jump, if your ship has one. Since there’s no talk about ship intelligences having to go into stasis, I suppose that the Dark Between the Stars only affects living things?
