Rules clarifications

Sat 26 Feb 2022, 20:58

Can anyone please clarify the following rules in the core rulebook?
  • Page 123, Powdered Stag's Horn: What does it mean that "you can use OBSERVATION to resist the temptations of Vaesen?" Observation is already used to resist a lot of Curses, so I don't understand how this is an improvement. Does it mean that you can use Observation to resist ALL curses, or perhaps you can use OBSERVATION in place of VIGILANCE for the few curses that use Vigilance? Or is "temptations" something specific?
  • Page 92, Gymnasium: The description says that "A player who spends one scene in the gymnasium heals a physical Condition." Does this mean that the Gymnasium is only useful during adventures that take place in and around Upsala? Or can a character who is on an adventure far away from Upsala spend a scene "reminiscing" about the time that they spent in the Gymnasium and they heal an extra physical Condition? (This same question also applies to the Butterfly House and the Botanical Garden. Incidentally, there is a typo in the PDF description of the Butterfly House: Its Function mentions the Botanical Garden, not the Butterfly House.)

Good questions.

I think that the Butterfly house has a typo and should read 'butterfly house' not 'botanic gardens'.
However, it does not matter much - each facility can be used once per player, so an additional character can heal 2 mental conditions (once for the botanical gardens, and one for the butterfly house), or one character could heal 4 conditions (which would cure a broken character apparently).

Good point about the Gymnasium. I think it only counts for mysteries in which the characters can get back to base.

My guess for the first question is that you can use Observation instead of Vigilance to resist a Vaesen's Lure and the like. FL likes talents and gears that allow you to swap attribute in a skill roll.

The Butterfly upgrades the botanical garden effect. The errata is the botanical garden, which should only heal one mental condition.

When the players upgrade the HQ the GM will roll for threats. These threats takes place, for the most part, in or nearby the HQ, which makes some upgrades very useful. The GM can of course also write mysteries that takes place in the HQ or in the city it is located in.

Hi! I have a question about how the Dedicated talent is meant to work.
The description says that "(...) you can ignore a mental Condition from pushing a skill test."

How should this be interpreted?

A )Does it mean you can avoid gaining a mental Condition from a failed pushed roll?

B) Or does it mean you can ignore an existing mental Condition’s penalty for one pushed roll?

So essentially:
Is Dedicated preventing the imposition of a Condition, or letting you ignore one you already have?

Thanks in advance for any clarification!

P.S. English is not my first language, so apologies if anything is unclear.

B, it means that you ignore the penalty for having mental conditions for one skill roll per session.
