Pushing Your Roll (page 48)

Mon 01 Sep 2025, 14:47

Hi folks,

The rules for pushing state (bullet points, column 2) that if you roll a one after pushing, you lose Hope. That makes sense to me (the rule, not the theme) but, the third bullet reads: "All dice count after the pushed roll, even dice not re-rolled". What does that mean?

If only ones rolled after pushing count as Hope losses, I'm confused by this final comment.

Thematically, losing Hope for pushing seems a little odd as you are increasing your chance for success. You could push a roll, get four sixes and two ones; your character would have achieved an amazing success but suffered crushing defeat. Odd.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

When you push, you re-roll all the dice that doesn't show a 1 or a 6. After the push all 1s will hurt you even those that you rolled before the re-roll and thus hasn't re-rolled.
It might not be so common to push a skill roll if one of the base dice is a 1 on the initial skill roll, but sometimes you need a success at any cost. If you got a 1 on the initial skill roll on one of the gear dice, that might be something more worth since that is just a sacrifice of a tool.
You push a skill roll only when you really need to succeed, not every single time you make a skill roll, just because of the risk.

Thanks for the feedback Fenhorn.

My confusion stems from the first two bullet points which read, "For each one rolled after a pushed roll, you lose one point of Hope". That indicates, to me, that ones rolled as part of the initial roll are not counted.

Thanks...I've reread it (lots) and it now makes sense to my tiny mind. Much appreciated.
