I've had the Alien core rulebook for a long time without playing it, and just the book for Chariot of the Gods, I think from before they released it in the starter set. I'm thinking of buying Destroyer of Worlds and Heart of Darkness just to have the full story for when I finally play it.

What I'm wondering is, do you think I will miss not having the starter set tokens, cards etc since the other two scenarios contain these. I'd prefer to have all three in the same style, but how necessary are they for enjoying the game?

In my opinion, while the cards and tokens are nice to have, they are not essential, but the big map that comes with the box is pretty dang neat. Did the map come in the booklet release, I wonder?

If you have the book and the map, then the cards are hardly essential, but I know the players liked to have them. So, it comes down to your group's preference and what money you have to spend.

I think you will certainly not regret purchasing the starter set. Remember, you also get an extra set of dice and a rule booklet, too.

Hello IIIIauTaH and welcome.

CHARIOT OF THE GODS is the start of the first cinematic. DESTROYER OF THE WORLDS is also very interesting. It's the Marines like in ALIENS. HEART OF DARKNESS opens the door to a new form of ALIEN (xenomorph), very interesting. It's a trio of stories not to be missed; I recommend you get them.

The specialized books, and one could say, additions to the CORERULE BOOK, are also very interesting. You have the COLONIAL MARINES OPERATIONS MANUAL (which covers all aspects of MARINES) and BUILDING BETTER WORLDS (which covers all aspects of colonizing new planets). In each book, you have a campaign with seven linked stories. It's also a must-have.

You now have the new edition of the CORERULE BOOK with rules (modified or added) and a RAPTURE PROTOCOL cinematic module. You can play with the old rules, but I honestly think the new rules are very good. It'll be out this fall, I think. The cinematic Hope's Last Day was developed into a STARTER SET for the release of the 2nd edition, so it's not to be missed either.

We'll probably get a SPACE TRUCKERS book with all aspects of life aboard tugships like the NOSTROMO. And this book will probably contain a campaign with seven linked adventures.

P.S. To answer your initial question, I don't think you need the additional tokens or cards to have fun. The 2nd edition of the ALIEN RPG corerule book comes with miniatures and a game system to play with those miniatures. If that works for you, I suggest you move towards that (eventually) to keep up with all the new products that will be released.
