Battlegroup Blue #2a - Plan Zhukov

Wed 12 Feb 2025, 09:48

BGB #2A: Plan Zhukov is the first part of the Irkutsk Incident which is the sequel to Battlegroup Blue: Escape to the West.

It begins with the PCs and the A- and B-Teams of Strike Force Grierson from the first book back in Severobaikalsk/Nizhneangarsk for a mix of R&R and a training gig ... when all heck breaks loose.

It seems that Vladimir Vladimirovich, military and politicas genius that he thinks he is, has decided on a 'masterstroke' ... a decapitation strike against the core of the new Buryat-Mongol Republic and their NATO allies of Battlegroup Blue.

Being the aforementioned military and political genius he has scraped together minimal forces, a Platoon of Spetsnaz, a couple of Platoons of VDV (Paras), a Naval Infantry Regiment (actually Battalion strength), a Mountain Infantry Brigade (also Battalion strength) none of which are a patch on their pre-War capabilities, plus some Category IV units (an Infantry 'Division' which is really only an overstrength Battalion, two Light Infantry Sovgvardia [Militia] Battalions and a Sovgvardia Cavalry Battalion) to stage a seven prong assault.

Spetsnaz vs Severobaikalsk's Town Hall/Government Centre, VDV against the main Train Station, both using the same Helicopter; a Naval Infantry/Mountain Infantry Assault against Severobaikalsk's Main and North Ports as well as the smaller Port in Nizhneangarsk; a Mountain Infantry air landing attempt (in Lisunov Li-2's = DC-3s) at Nizhneangarsk airstrip (one Platoon of a Company followed by another Platoon every eight hours); and a combined Paradrop (Li-2's again) and Helicopter Assault (using the same 'Chopper allocated to the Town Hall and RR station in Severobaikalsk ... if it survives).

Overly complicated, poorly planned and with troops who have not been prepared for this ... by officers chosen for political reliability not military ability who aren't prepared to tell Vladimir Vladimirovich that he has no clothes ...

Fun and games!

Note: This is a HIGH ADVENTURE CAMPAIGN. It is not a Mad Max style grub for every mouthful of food, sip of water and round of ammo campaign ... so, if that's you thing, this won't be.

Being set in and around Lake Baikal in the USSR there really isn't any 'Canon' to go by, so it makes its own. Again, if that's not your bag, probably not going to like this. Don't say you weren't warned.

On the other hand, if you want a game of small unit high action adventure with a well thought through background using the TW:2000 4th Edition rules, then you will probably like this
