It does need an update, especially around the use of ammo dice. Revised rules are now that remaining rounds in magazine minus one is the maximum number of ammo dice you can roll, and ammo expenditure is the sum of the ammo dice plus one or the remaining rounds in the magazine, whichever is lowest.

The updated rule is in the latest player manual from DriveThruRPG
