Explosive Hits on Vehicles

Wed 16 Oct 2024, 15:58

Ran my group through our first ever session. Had a blast! Literally. My players waylaid a BTR and shot it with an RPG. We left on that cliffhanger.

I know how to do vehicle damage. So my question is: how is the dmage to the occupants calculated? Pg 84 says, "If a weapon with an explosive effect (i.e. it has a blast power) penetrates the armor of a vehicle, all occupants in the vehicle suffer the effects of the explosion, in addition to any direct damage. The blast power is not decreased by the armor."

After subtracting armor, the RPG did 5 direct damage to the BTR. So, do ALL occupants take the explosion damage PLUS the 5 direct damage? Or does the direct damage go through the components as normal (possibly hitting occupants), and then the blast damage hits everyone? Further, do you need to roll the 2d8 for a C blast damage for the interior occupants still or is it an automatic success?

The direct damage hits one component as usual, then the blast power hits as per the explosion rules.

Thank you! So in this case it would look like:

1. 5 direct damage passes armor
2. Roll 1d6 for armor ablation
2. Roll 1d10 for penetration component damage
3. Roll 2d8 for blast damage

Does that sound like the correct process?

If so, does the occupants' armor reduce damage from the explosion? And if a person is hit by the direct damage, how is a crit determined?

Personal armour protects you regardless of where you are against direct damage and blast damage (if it hits the armoured body part).

How would secondary damage work in this scenario? Say the first roll hits the driver, how much damage does he take and how much damage goes to the next component?

The rules say (p.84)
DRIVER: The driver of the vehicle is hit by the attack. Resolve the attack normally, including hit location and any critical injury Any excess damage beyond the crit level of the weapon continues to hit another component.

So in this example, the driver has 5 hit capacity. He'd take 5 damage and suffer a critical injury, but then no other components or people would be hit?

The rules say, when it comes to driver and passengers, that:
Any excess damage beyond the crit level of the weapon continues to hit another component.
So if the crit level is 3, any damage above 3 will hit another component.
