Rules on "Parasite" mutation

Fri 11 Oct 2024, 17:55

Hi, I'm a part of a new group trying out this game. I rolled the "Parasite" mutation and I am curious about the first part of the power
Steal one point of any attribute from the victim for every MP you spend. You cannot exceed your own maximum score.
  • I'm wondering if I'm absorbing the attribute AND adding it to my stats permanently?
  • And is a characters maximum score 5 . 4 . 4 . 4 or is it what ever I chose at the start e.g. 5 . 3 . 3 . 3 or 4 . 4 . 4 . 2
Maybe I'm reading to much into this and the power is just to drain my opponents. The GM was thinking of ruling it so that I am gaining points but they fade with time but we are all new. If anyone has had this discussion I'd appreciate some hints :)
The DM only bought the Core Rulebook, maybe this has been addressed in later versions.

With thanks, Rusty

The first effect of Parasite simply allows you to heal yourself by "stealing" attribute points from a target. So if you have a Strength of 3, but has 2 points of damage so your current Strength is 1, you can use Parasite on a nearby target to steal 1 Strength point per MP, up to 2.
This effect will not affect critical injuries or permanent trauma.

The second effect lets you "steal" a mutation, allowing you to use it on your next turn.

The third effect is a bit like the first effect but in reverse. It allows you to heal a target by 1 point per MP spent, but you have to take the same trauma that you healed. So if your friend has Strength 3 and 2 points of damage, you can spend 1-2 MP to heal his Strength 1-2 points but you have to take 1-2 points of Strength trauma if you do.
This third effect can be used to heal critical injuries (it cost 2 MP for a non-lethal, 4 MP for a lethal critical injury) If you use it this way, it will not affect you (you don't get the critical injury).
