Hello,
I'm acting as LM in the campaign from Tales from the Lone Lands, and my players are now dealing with Chapter 5 (Wonders of the Northern World).
In a few sessions they will start the final adventure (The Quest for Amon Guruthos), which seems particularly challenging to me (consider it's the first time I'm being a TTRPG *Master): very long journeys, high amounts of shadow points, strong enemies hiding in darkness, 3-might creatures, an underground source of evil and madness, and insta-death chances.
I'm wondering how to offer an entertaining challenge to my players, where the death of a character is a possibility not to be overlooked, without risking a party-wipe. I have sometimes underestimated the power and capabilities of the characters in the previous adventures, when they have overcome challenges that I deemed quite hard, and I'm trying to make things more interesting and difficult for them; however I wouldn't want to overdo it with Amon Guruthos. At the same time, I don't want it to be a walk in the park for them.
I'm curious to hear from other LM (or players) how this adventure went for them, if there was something interesting or challenging worth mentioning, and also what way did the players devise to defeat Amon Guruthos. Did you notice a leap in difficulty fromt he previous adventures? How did you balance it with the player/characters skills? Anything else you'd like to share?
Thanks!
