Drone Operator

Sun 05 May 2024, 17:04

Hello everyone,

Running the game soon and a player wants to be a drone operator. Wanted some clarifications on the differences between a Drone Operator and a regular player character

1. You roll stats the same, but is your combined STR and AGI your HP or treated as hull? Or do you use the hull from the Drone you pick

2. Which Drone are you allowed? Is it a statted Drone like the Kid Cosmo?

3. If your Drone is damaged and can't be repaired for some time, could they still communicate with the group or sync with a new Drone some way?

Ultimately I just want to make sure I have good answers so a full overview of how you understand the Archetype could really help me

I have a similar question. I posted this on the discord, but I'm wondering if there is an official answer.

I can’t wrap my head around the drone operator archetype. I can see two ways of interpreting the rule book.

1 - The character sheet represents the human that pilots the drone

The drone pilot character sheet represents the human (that is somewhere else). The player would play a drone (which model?). In this case the drone STR and AGI stats would override the character stats and the drone model Hull would be used instead of the Health on the character sheet. Drones rule would be used, giving the neurocaster network bonus to all rolls (p98). If the character has the Drone Operator talent, this would give another +2 to all roll.

2 - The character sheet represents the drone (the physical PC)

The stats on the character sheets represents the drone stats. The Health is in fact the Hull, but it has to be repaired when reaching 0 (not healed). Mechanically, this would make it exactly like the other archetypes. With the only difference is that the drone doesn't suffer Bliss, but can't reach local neuroscapes as mentioned in the boxed text (p70).

Hello! Sorry for the late reply. As a drone operator, your drone is unique, so you don't choose one from the lists. Your Health is Hull instead. If your drone is damaged, it needs to be repaired until you can function again. You can potentially Hack the Network (page 94) to take control of another drone for a while.

Option #2 is the right answer.
