secondary skill or heroic ability?

Sat 24 Aug 2024, 00:07

When adding in a new craft, such as Alchemy, what does everyone think in terms of the best route to go down? Secondary skill or heroic ability?

Is there a perceived route that is better, or more appropriate depending on what criteria? Obviously a new magic school fits in with the secondary skill, but for something like alchemy it can be seen as a specialised craft like master blacksmith or an arcane skill in its own right.

What does everyone think is the intended use for each route? Any guidance for homebrewers based on the thinking process of the designers.

Not just for alchemy, but for other specialisations that could work either way.

I think it might work as a Secondary skill, with more complex potions working like spells of a higher rank, gotta research from the simplier recipes first.

It should be noted alchemy will likely be included in the book of magic.

Yes I did wonder that, can’t wait to see what they include alongside necromancy and demonology. I assume similar to the list from the original version. I don’t think alchemy was one of them, but there were only 11 of them I believe and they say that there will be 12 in total (?), so maybe alchemy is the twelfth?
