Piercing blow and damage question

Tue 09 Jul 2024, 17:28

If I make my protection roll vs the piercing blow do I still take damage even if I succeed?

Yes, you still take endurance damage. Otherwise a piercing blow could be a bad thing at times, if it saved a foe that your endurance damage defeated.

You take the Endurance loss but not a Wound.

The way I think of it is this:
  • A "miss" (you don't hit the TN or get a Gandalf Dune) is where you swing and it just completely misses.
  • A normal "hit" (you hit the TN but don't get a Piercing Blow) hits you, but is deflected by armour, shield, etc. This doesn't cause a major injury, but it drains you, saps your strength, etc.
  • A Piercing Blow is an opportune blow directed at a weak point in the armour, the protection roll is for whether you manage to shift enough to take the blow squarely or if it lands on that weak point.
When thinking like that, it's evident why you take Endurance damage whether you pass or not.
