Stacking artefacts at the ark / explosives damage /repairing artifiacts

Mon 17 Jun 2024, 17:28

As the title indicates, I have 3 rules interrogations, and I would like to kniow if you have insights about them or if i misunderstood the books (or even better, how you guys handle this) :

1*/ My players found 3 hand grenades and stacked them in the sanctuary. Unless i'm mistaken, nothing in the rules opposes that but i find it a bit illogical that a technological bonus can be acquired several times with the same object.
Can anyone tell me if you allow this ?

2/ explosives rules are pretty summary, and they mention neither cover nor armor throws. I allowed cover for obvious reasons but armor seems to me a bit different, since the blast itself can damage you whether you wear armor or not ; so i decided not to allow armor roll in the end;

3/ i don't think you can repair artifacts in the game ? i thought maybe I could allow it depending on the technologocal level of the ark (which is in part why the first question is important).

Thank you very much for your answers !

This will be up to the GM to decide, but I agree that since the idea for the Dawn Vault is that the guardian chroniclers can study them. Do you really need to study them twice. Also bear in mind here that if the Ark already fully understand an artifact, can study of that artifact increase the DEV. The rules doesn't say anything about that either.
In my campaigns, I ruled that, even though the law of the Ark was to give all the artifacts to the Dawn Vault people, only one of the same type will give DEV bonus and if the Ark already knows how an Artifact works (Tech DEV of 20 or more for an Hand Grenade), then it will not give any DEV bonus. I have played three (core) campaigns and not many artifacts was handed in, I must say.

Armour (and cover) always work unless the weapon or situation specifies that it doesn't. Armour isn't that efficient in MYZ while good explosions can be. A Kevlar Vest has Armour Rating 6, that means 67% chans for one success, 26% for two successes and remote chans for more than that. A Hand Grenade has Blast Power 9 means 81% for one success, 46% for two successes, 18% for three successes and remove chance for more than that and a Hand Grenade has Weapon Damage 2, which means that the first success will yield two damage and yes, anyone within Arm's Length will suffer +1 damage.

or for short, an explosion can be very dangerous and armour isn't that effective anyway. But sure it is ok to rule that no armour against explosions, but that can be very dangerous for the PCs (they will also be affected by the same house rule).

You can repair it if you know how it works, so the DEV must be high enough or individual Gear Head must have succeeded with a Comprehend roll.
