Question on Famous War Gear

Sun 16 Jun 2024, 13:50

Hello, everyone!

I just compiled my Magical Item Index for my Darkening of Mirkwood campaign, and I was wondering: do the Magical Qualities of a Famous Weapon or Armor substitute the Rewards a Hero has earned by increasing Valor?

For example, let's imagina that a Hero has Valor 3 and has chosen two Rewards for his Spear (Keen and Grievous) and for the armor (Cunning Make). The Loremaster presents him with a Magical Spear that has different Magical Qualities. How is this handled? Does the Hero renounce his previous weapon, and the use the Magical one instead? I'm a bit confused.

The first property is unlocked on every item (leaving up to two locked).

When they increase their Valour, they can choose to spend their Reward unlocking one of the properties on that object.

They can later turn in that weapon, which will refund any Rewards spent on it that you can then use to unlock properties on other weapons, if they prefer.

I've said weapons, but it's the same whether it's a weapon or armour etc.

A formula for working out how many properties should be unlocked is:

Total number of unlocked weapon properties = Number of Famous Weapons/Wargear owned + Ranks in Valour
