About Fear Result 5 - Scream

Wed 29 May 2024, 18:26

"5- Scream. You scream in horror, which causes all player characters who hear the sound to immediately suffer a fear attack as well. Each person only ever needs to make one WIL roll to resist the same fear attack."

Scenario-
your PC and my PC are in a room together, a monster does an AOE attack that makes us each to roll for fear. My PC fails and gets a Fear roll of 2-Shaken, afflicted the Scared condition, and your PC fails as well, gets result of 5-Scream.

Does this mean my PC has to roll for the second Fear, prompted by your PC's Scream?
What if my PC succeeds the first fear roll; would they have to try to succeed the second time?
Does the Screaming PC "hear their own scream" forcing them to also make another Fear check?

Assuming the logic flows like programming, then RAW is that my PC would be prompted for two instances of fear rolls. Unless I missed or misunderstood something.

My take on this is that you only roll once per situation, meaning, just because we (as players) have to take our time to make the make the roll, it actually happens at the same time in game.

I get that the timing is all resolved the moment the monster prompts all in range to make a fear check. So, would it be: monsters's turn -> monster uses a move prompting fear: PC1 fails a fear roll getting Shaken, PC2 fails getting Scream, PC1 rolls again, and PC2 rolls again (because Scream states "all player characters who hear the sound")?
