Nightkin as Player Characters

Sat 18 May 2024, 11:56

Hi,

For those of you that have allowed goblins and orcs from the Bestiary as player characters, how have you dealt with the Nocturnal condition of the nightkin?

Are you enforcing the penalties, or are ignoring them for player characters?

Personally i enforce it.
Mechanically on the grounds of if they could avoid those penalties, they would have a trait that specifically stated it.
In universe, i say they have slightly better vision for the dark compared to all the other races (But not by much), but it's more that they are called Nightkin because they prefer to be active at night when that pesky sunlight isn't going to be a problem.
It's like people who work nightshifts or just prefer to be active at night. They are not necessarily better at seeing in the dark for it, just it is what they prefer or what time of day that works best for them.
Beware the fey!

In the misty vale campaign, the sun is not a real issue because there is a lot of mist (good for the orcs and goblins as told in the book but... For the orcs NPC).

What is even the benefit of playing a nightkin if they don’t get night vision. I don’t know how a creature can be nocturnal and not have some sort of low light vision.
