Confirmation on area of effect

Sat 06 Apr 2024, 18:35

Just a hopefully quick clarification...

For a spell that has a range of (example) 4 meters (sphere)....

Is that in all directions around the center point or extended from the centered point? What constitutes the area of the sphere?

Example: Assume we're talking squares on a grid (feet or meters doesn't matter), and the center of the sphere is the caster... does the sphere...

Extend to "each adjacent square" around the caster (that would be, counting the center square, two squares in every direction)...

OR

Does the sphere extend two squares in every direction from the center?

I think it's the second option but wanted to verify.

Thanks!

It is two squares in each direction. That technically also means diagonally, even though some people (not me btw) have problems with these diagonal things.

Thanks! That's what i was thinking. I think I'm just used to radius vs diameter... not "sphere".

And i get ya on the diagonal. Not an issue for me either ;)

For those like me, for whom diagonal is a verisimilitude issue, since 2×2 gives a diagonal of 8^0.5 is 2.8 and change... 3m is close enough for me and my group.
But to be honest, I usually use a measuring tape, not the grid.
