Encounter/adventure building

Mon 22 Jan 2024, 19:28

Any advice on building adventures that are balanced so I don't TPK or cake my adventures? Really love this system and want to build a home grown campaign but need GM advice. Been a GM for 35 years but never played a game like this.

If you check out the Adventures book, you will see how they tweaked the monsters' Ferocity. If you get the Bestiary, the sea serpent is also a good guideline for monsters vs their size.

Compare HP, AP, damage, and ferocity to player HPs, APs, damage, and numbers. That's the best you can do, plus telegraphing how dangerous an encounter is. Beyond that, don't sweat it. It is the players' responsibility anyway what fights they pick. If they don't evade, flee, parley, they are the ones to blame if they TPK.
