DnD basic rules adapted for LotR 5e?

Sun 19 Nov 2023, 17:22

Is there somewhere in the community a DnD basic ruleset adapted for LotR 5e? As everyone knows the core book lacks it. That would make character creation, etc.. easier for us.

There is no need for an adaptation. You can use the Dungeons and Dragons Basic Rules, which is a free download.

Perhaps I did not make myself clear about this. Yes, I know the basic rules document. My question was about an edited, searchable pdf which reflects the context of LotR (for eg. phrasing: heroic cultures instead of races, callings/classes etc..) My concern is that document is for vanilla DnD and there is a lot of irrelevant or unnecessary content to wade through. I know it's just a convenience, but maybe someone in the community already has it.

the back cover of the LOTR 5e CORE book says "contains everything you need to create adventures"

while p7 on the inside says "not a stand-alone game" and "must be familiar with the rules for 5e"

If you don't already know 5e well, you have a ton of preparation to get started with LOTR 5e - I'm not trying to be overly critical here, but the back of the book seems to be advertising exactly what the OP is asking for (and what I thought I was buying when I saw the book in my local game shop)

I know 5e is super popular, it just wasn't something I had ever learned before, now I know it and I'm glad I do, but the time and money I spent getting to this point during the past few months is way larger than I expected at the beginning- I'm a fan of Free League, but the discrepancy between what is advertised on the book cover and what you actually get is HUGE

I had the same problem and, in fact, I posted a similar thread this year (I think it was on January more or less). This should be included on the back in a manner like: "not a standalone game, you need..." or similar.

Luckily, I have solved the problem. DnD players' handbook can be downloaded for free, there are another licenses with all the rules which can be purchased really cheap and the DnD 5e system is easy to learn and play. This is because me and my group are veteran players/DMs.

But I think in, for example, a family or people who come to RPGs for the first time and that problem couldn't be easily solved.
