Selling Equiptment

Sun 10 Sep 2023, 23:21

Hey,
I know that the Treasure cards sort of abscrat loot, but II am wondering if there is a set mechanic for selling used equiptment. So when the party kills 5 cultists and ends up with 5 extra hand axes, for example, are their rules for the re-sale. Many games allow re-sale, but at a reduced price, such as half or quarter the full value. I am wondering if a mechanic already exists, and failing that, I am curious what others might do, or what ideas there are on the subject.

Thanks.

Not seen anything specifically about selling gear from dead enemies. But i recon it depends a bit on how you wanna run it. How i run it is that gear from beaten enemies, unless it is something specific or special (like a bandit chef's personal war axe) is broken and sold for half price unless fixed (gives you an incentive to invest in craft).

But usually i just let them draw from a smaller "treasure deck" holding the less exciting cards (like a handful of copper or silver coins, some piece of jewelery or gear) and say "This is what you find as valuables", and i only let them take an weapon if they insist (But point out that they will unless they have slots in their equipment need to haul it in their inventory. Suddenly carrying 4-7 broken hand axes that is only worth 1gp, 2 if they fix them, is not as appealing).
Beware the fey!

The Bartering Skill rules cover everything but the base price for used equipment. Every GM is different, but my personal suggestion is a quarter of the original cost so as to keep PC still lean and hungry (and good bartering rolls will increase the price anyway.)

That’s about what I used. My player’s collected up some goblin equipment after a skirmish and carried it back to town. With limited demand for weapons from the townsfolk, the smiths were only interested in the short swords for the metal (“we can melt that down and make something decent…”) and so offered at the bottom of the range. The bows went for a bit more, but still well under their new value (not many people carry around 25 gp for used goblin weapons)

Thanks for your reponses, they basically allign what I was thinking. I like the idea of sticking to the treasure cards most of the time, but I also don't mind my group being a little less lean financially since that lets them do more things for their characters. I will have to check out the Barter rules, I am not sure that I read them.

I basically do a1/4 orginal value... with a successful bartering roll, I'll mature it 1/2 value. With a demon, no buyers are interested. With a dragon; they manage full value.

I hear you, we're starting out as beer run business and that cascaded quickly?
River barge? Used sailing boat stats
What do we put the beer in? Barrels. And we decided they held 20 weight units each.
How much beer in a barrel? We decided on 12 tankards to 1 inventory slot, so a barrel contains 240 tankards.

But remember we are buying from the brewer and selling wholesale to the tavern, so your price to the tavern should be selling at 50% to 2/3rd cost. At this point, that's all the GM's call.

I drop a coin quality. If something would cost 15gp, resale might be 15sp, assuming anyone wants it at all.
