Quick question re. Shotguns

Sat 20 May 2023, 19:47

Ok, so the RAW states that you can fire a weapon with as many ammo dice as it has ammo -1.
So if you have 2 shots left, you can only use 1 ammo dice.

So far, so good.

But double barreled shotguns have a ROF of 2 and Mag of 2.

That shouldn't be possible according to RAW.

What gives? (also, there are some 1 mag weapons with 1 ROF)

Ability to fire single rounds (using no ammo dice for an attack) was a late addition, as I recall, so there may have been some related edits missed.

The double barrel having an ROF 2 was done in response to the question "why would I ever fire both barrels if there's no extra effect"? Of course, now firing both barrels is simulated by using the one ammo die, as opposed to using 0, so ROF should be dropped back to 1.

I was considering implementing those changes in my Foundry VTT campaign anyway, so I'll just go ahead and do that then.

Thanks for the response :)

Yes, technically that weapon can't use ROF 2 anymore and should be ROF 1.

Ugh...

Well that threw me into a rabbit hole.

I changed the zip/pipe guns to ROF 0. I changed the Double Barreled and Sawn-Off shotguns to ROF 1.

Then I started looking at the ammo for shotguns. And if it's not classed as a magazine, Foundry wants to apply weight to each shell... so I increased the capacity of loose shotgun shells to 25 and changed weight to 0.01, so that 25 shells weigh .25.

Then I went ahead and did that to all the loose ammo that's in the game (like 30-06 and 30-30)... but then I thought... why not have loose ammo for all ammo sorts.
So I made the same thing for each ammo sort in the game (with the exception of .50 cal and larger, which I set to 5 shells at .25 weight each).

And then I thought... this looks weird with all this loose ammo scattered in all the different folders.

So, I resorted all the ammo into Civilian Pistol Ammo, Civilian Rifle Ammo, NATO Pistol Ammo, NATO Rifle Ammo, USSR Pistol Ammo and USSR Rifle Ammo.

So... now everything looks much neater in my inventory section :)

I might go through and change all the Rifle ammo weights into .02 so that 25 shots is 0.5 in weight, so that rifle ammo weighs more than pistol ammo (because you can't have a lower weight than 0.01 in VTT)

We'll see...

Old guy with an O/U IRL and I have shot sporting clays with it.
You can fire both barrels in under 10 or even 5 if so ROF to me is good.
BUT you are now empty and need to reload. That is where it gets ugly.
I would not carry a double into combat unless I planned on 2 quick shots and dropping it, or that was all I had.

As far as a pump shotgun I used a Pump for a while too, but I had one when I was in High School. (class of 1979) so I can run one and make birds afraid. Till they see how well I shoot. Not that good of a wing shot.
I put 3 on target for quals with a pump shotgun while in USN in about 6 seconds and all were on target at close range. And I outshot most of the gunners' mates since I had used one more.
I had friend in the right places...

I have a house rule for special things.
3 round burst uses 3 rounds, but you get to roll 2 dice. M16A2 and M4
Double barrel shotgun can use both barrels, but I hope you make your reload roll....
You use only the shells for rate of fire for shotguns because the reloads are so bad.
Most people do not carry a shotgun, they have real(ish) weapons.
You roll 3 dice and I consider that suppressive fire and you add the dice.
