So what happens if a Cheyenne shoots at a spaceship?

Mon 16 Jan 2023, 07:32

Hello,

I think this is my first post here but I've been running an Alien campaign with a couple of playgroups for the past few months, and a rules question came up in last night's game. I'm not sure how to handle it myself, so I thought I would ask here for advice.

The characters are in possession of a CM-88H Bison spaceship, and during an expedition gone wrong, some W-Y mercenaries shot at the ship with a Cheyenne dropship. Now, although the Bison is 300m long and the Cheyenne about 25m long, the Cheyenne has more Hull and Armor points than the Bison. It seems a bit weird that one ship would be tougher than another twelve times its size, although I understand the Cheyenne is a military vehicle and the Bison is a civil spaceship. Are the attributes for the different ships and vehicles supposed to be played straight against each other, or should I be scaling them according to the ships' different sizes? (Or am I just overthinking this? )

Thanks in advance!

there is 2 rules here ... one for mid-ships or craft and one for large-ship ...

I don't remember the page in the corebook exactly but ...

mid-ship (cheyenne) will not DO lots of damage to a Bison Hauler (large-ship) except if they cause a major damage.
I would say it's at Game Mother decision case by case.

You can't mix the 2 sizes rules and each Game Mother should bring his own rules into this.

That my view of this.

Exemple ... if you nuke a BISON with a nuclear missile from a Cheyenne, this will DO lots of damage ....

I read a homebrew rule some time ago and I think It was somewhere here.

Maybe I am wrong because I don't have the text un front of me but It tells: the big ship has the armour doubled against smaller ships attacks and damage from these smaller ships are halved (and I think damage from bigger ships is doubled).

it's one way to see it. Good job.
but a 300 meters ship and a 900 meters ship, it's not de same thing. I would keep the case by case decision for a Game Mother.

One of the vehicular railguns in Colonial Marines (p 97, IIRC) lists 15 damage to vehicles, 5 to starships. That's a nice 3:1 ratio, if one wants to use it... and it's unclear what the sequencing is, but I'd interpret it as "Divide damage by 3 then make the armor rolls to reduce the ship damage" Makes for a nice easy conversion. And as someone else noted, I'd say no major damage possible.
