They're crawling over the one Vasquez emptied her clip into, which is finally dead. The one Gorman fired at was coming from the other direction cutting them off.

It occurs to me that a non-game-breaking way to fix is to make the soldier Xenomorphs less powerful. There's no reason why they have to have 10 amour just because they are a later development stage. In game terms, you're more likely to encounter these types in large groups, so they will still pose a threat even if they aren't are as powerful. Keeping the Scout (or whatever the subtype was in the first movie) as it is will preserve the hard to kill feeling of the original movie.

In a way it also makes sense that the earlier stage is actually the tougher one, as it's more likely to be alone trying to establish a hive, whereas the Soldier type will likely not emerge until the hive is established, and hence safety in numbers.
