Written or Video example of combat?

Mon 30 Jan 2023, 02:46

Is there a really good example of combat on YouTube or a written example anywhere? I've seen there are a fair number of sessions online, but combing through 3 hour long YouTubes trying to find the good stuff is daunting. If anyone knows of any great examples, I'd love that. I'm also interested in knowing what role (if any) miniatures can play in a TOR combat session?

Actually for those that want combat help, I found this and thought it was REALLY well done, if a bit fast:

As you've done an excellent job of answering your own question, I'll at least try to cover the bit on miniatures.

While the rules are "theatre of the mind", miniatures make a great prop and can be helpful in gameplay.

For example, miniatures can be used to signal which stance each PC is in, and then to clearly show which foe is engaged with each PC.

Further, battlemaps can spark creativity from players and the loremaster in terms of complications/advantages in combat and "other combat action":

Player: "Can I try to push one of the statues shown on the battlemap on to the troll?"

Loremaster: "Sure, please give me an Athletics check."

Excellent points. Thank you!

If no one has written a combat assistant, I may look at coding one :)

I don't tend to use miniatures but Games Workshop or Mithril miniatures are probably good options? Followed by various companies that do Saxon miniatures or similar? Other may well be better on that topic than I am!
