I am lost

What with the different map-colours on the LM map (e.g. Free Lands, Wild Lands) what purpose do they have? does it have with time it takes to make the Journey?

On the map legend it says:

END OF THE JOURNEY
A journey lasts a number of days equal to the number of hexes in the journey path, plus 1 day for each hard terrain hex (hills, woods, marshes, etc.). If the entire Company is travelling on horseback, halve the resulting total (rounding fractions up).
♦ On a forced march, count 1 day for each 2 hexes in the journey path instead of 1, but each Player-hero accumulates 1 additional point of Fatigue each day.

Also, there are d6 advantages/disadvantages which are affected by what kind of terrain you're on when an "event" happens, but I haven't gotten too well read in that area yet.

Anyway, the key on the left of the map at the end of the core book shows what each color represents

P113 of the core rules, different colours correspond to different ways of rolling for events.

Borderland: roll twice, choose highest.

Wild lands: roll once.

Dark lands: roll twice, choose lowest.

With these rolls, plus 1D to events on roads and -1D to events in hard terrain you can get a lot of variety and interesting decisions in route making without needing nots of fiddly rules.

Hope this helps. :)
