The difference between LotR and TOR?

Tue 17 Jan 2023, 15:16

I haven't played D&D since the early 80's but I am keen to get back into it. Please could someone explain what the difference is between The One Ring and the Lord of the Rings? Thank you.

LotR is a D&D 5th Edition Supplement whereas TOR is it’s own RPG Engine developed by Free League.

The content is pretty much the same (TOR has more books out currently), but it’s all based in Eriador of Middle Earth. If you’re looking for advice for which to play, I guess it depends on your play style, especially when it comes to Combat.

If you want more Tactical play, I’d stick with LotR. If you want more Theater of the Mind play, try TOR!
