Calculating Journey length

Thu 05 Jan 2023, 23:30

I would appreciate a sense check on my formulas for determining the number of days a journey takes, both for foot and horse and allowing for Forced March. My formula are:

• On Foot = [Total hexes + 1 per ‘hard terrain’ hex] = total days
• On foot, force marching = [Total hexes / 2 + 1 per ‘hard terrain’ hex] = total days
• On horse, where terrain allows mounted travel = [Total hexes + 1 per ‘hard terrain’ hex] / 2 = total days.
• On horse, if force marching = [Total hexes / 2 + 1 per ‘hard terrain’ hex] / 2 = total days.

So, a journey from Fornost to Lake Evendim, travelling directly west, is 5 hexes. The first hex through woods, and a further 4 hexes which I assume is open terrain. On foot, I get a journey duration of: 5 total hexes + 1 (for woods) = 6 days. A forced march (which counts 1 day for every 2 hexes, assuming I round up) is 5 total hexes/ 2 = 3 + 1 for woods = 4 days in total (this also adds 4 additional Fatigue for each hero to the Journey).

Note, 'hard terrain' adds 'days' to the journey, it does not affect how you count the number of hexes (unlike the Forced March).

Is that right?
