Back to Ghazali

Wed 21 Dec 2022, 16:48

So! I finally have a live group again, after covid and all. I've been wanting to run the Icons campaign since I got Coriolis like five years ago. However, so far I've only run Ghazali (and the starter adventure from the box, and a couple of improvised things).

But now, dammit, we're going to crack the mystery at the heart of the Third Horizon!

So, Ghazali I've run, me and the players had a good time (they were basically sweating when it all was over), and it's a nice little canonical intro to the campaign. However: one of my players was in my last game of Ghazali, and another ran Ghazali himself (basically only half of it, and with another ruleset, because of time constraints).

This is clearly an issue.

Now, one solution would be to run Ghazali, but make big changes to keep everyone on their toes. I don't know: have something worse than the nekatra skulking through the ship, maybe a small mercenary band out for the discs, maybe blow off half the ship a bit into the adventure and have them moving around with flipping gravity or something.

Another would be to take another "starter adventure" (The Dead Ship comes to mind) and retrofit it to kind of be about the Ghazali convoy and put the important plot points there. Sounds doable. But, hell, Ghazali is such a fun action romp to put new players through.

A third would of course be to write my own thing, and tie that into Ghazali and the whole thing with the thing. This. Is. A. Lot. Of. Work.

So, any ideas about any of this, or all of it?

(I put basically the same question to Facebook and Reddit, and I got good answers, some of which are reflected here.)

How about start your campaign onboard Hamurbi station - lots going on already. Then the Ghazali appears but it's mostly off camera until survivors start arriving
