Some thoughts on running Hope's Last Day this upcoming Saturday ...

Wed 07 Dec 2022, 02:29

(1) I have six players, so I created a sixth PC ... a kid nicknamed Push-Pull.

(2) I'm going to start the group out in a Daihotai, no comms, as they push to do their fantasy football draft. Push-Pull is a stowaway, in line with his/her character.

(3) As they finish up and start the drive in, the announcements from the adventure start coming in.

So, things that I need to do:

(4) Write up those announcements more formally.

(5) Write up some starting banter. I did this for CotG, and it was very popular.

(6) There are no extra NPCs meant to be played by players-whose-PC-died, so I'm doing four things to give those players something to do. (This is a true one-shot, so I think this will serve to entertain the unfortunate players.)

(a) Let them play any encountered xenomorphs. So write up that stat-block for them.
(b) Create a known religious (read, like Morris) crazy, who will turn rapidly on his/her rescuers. Write up that stat-block.
(c) I love the atmospherics of Bioshock, so I'm going to write up crazed, apocalyptic, and scary announcements and sounds that come over the colony PA, and let the player choose when to interject those. (Like maybe once every 15 minutes or so.)

Any comments and suggestions are welcome.

There are five things in the links below I created and will share.

(1) and (2) A character sheet and agenda for a sixth PC: a kid nicknamed Push-Pull. The kid has a slingshot, with damage "SPECIAL." I'm thinking he can use it for things like distraction, turning on/off light-switches, and so on. The agenda format matches that of someone else, I think on Reddit. (I'm not denying credit on purpose, I swear!)

(3) Atmospheric PA Announcements. Since there aren't included replacements for PCs who die (but see below!), I created these random charts to allow a player to continue to have fun and affect the game. Use of them needs some common sense, but I'm really looking forward to trying this out tomorrow!

(4) A slightly altered Background written up, along with a banter script. My players really enjoys that when I did it with CotG, so I did it again.

(5) An NPC sheet of a religious nutcase (like Hirsch on bath-salts) named Jeremiah Zouz. Again, intended for a player whose PC dies early on.

Also, I intend to offer a player the chance to run the xenomorphs in any encounter, so I printed out the above "somebody else's" lovely xenomorph statcards.

[Maps]

I absolutely love these maps, but I can't justify the toner use, and I'm not in the office to engage in some "light borrowing" of the color printer ...
