Is it possible to have a 3rd party license (see Mörk Borg) for an OGL-based game?

Thu 14 Jul 2022, 16:32

Hello!
I'm creating a sci-fi game based upon the OGL, and would like to open it up for other creators to write their own supplements for it.
It would be nice to include a third party license like https://morkborg.com/license/.
I understand that I need to publish my game using the OGL license, and specifying what I consider "product identity", which will probably be logos, brand name and so on.
But how to create a system so that other creators can show that their supplements are compatible with my product?

Update: Old-Scool Essentials has their own third-party license even if they use the OGL. Will look into this for inspiration: https://necroticgnome.com/blogs/news/pu ... essentials

As the current OGL stands, anyone can make a game based off your product, using anything except what you've identified as Product Identity, that's how the OGL works. If you want to have them use a logo, that's fine, too - you just need to provide it and all then to do so. But bear in mind that you can't add that requirement to the text of the OGL.

All that said, I would put your plans on hold for a little bit, as Free League are currently updating the license and things may change.
I make YZE games (https://drivethrurpg.com/browse.php?author=Matt%20Kay) and produce predominately Free League content on my YouTube channel (https://youtube.com/@3skulls)
