Rules Differences OGL and ROS

Wed 25 May 2022, 19:34

I'm really happy with the trilogy of core rulebooks for Ruins of Symbaroum 5E. That said, there is some complication because of the nature of the OGL in how the rules interact. You need to have at least the Basic Rules then go back and forth between a couple of books to understand all the rules. I'm sure there are some restrictions with Free League being able to talk about this but it would be useful to have a reference sheet that states: "Use THIS, but not THAT."

This post is an attempt to summarize via a quick reference where to look while using the 5E rules. I've identified abbreviations below and made some notes. Feel free to cut-and-paste and modify. I am basing my 5E "Core Rules" on the free D&D 5E Basic Rules, which may be downloaded for free.

Ruins of Symbaroum Player's Guide (SPG)
Ruins of Symbaroum Gamemaster's Guide (SGG)
Ruins of Symbaroum Bestiary (SBT)
Ruins of Symbaroum Gamemaster's Screen (SGS)

You’d have to use the multi class rules in the D&D rules but it isn’t fully specified in the Basic Rules. Plus the Symbaroum rules don’t include the rules nor a critical table on proficiencies gained by class.

Maybe the authors intention is to stay with one class?

Thats what I thought. Thanks.

Think I'll just make a list myself. Should be easy enough.
