Southerner?

Fri 18 Feb 2022, 10:15

In the rulebooks scenario site, the bandits in the dwarven tunnels is lead by a man called a southener. Cant remember hos namn, is at work.

But where does southerners come from? Umbar? Near Harad? Dunland? Or is it a common term? If I remenber right, a Southron (sydrön) is a specific name for People from Harad.

What do you think?

I think Southerner is from a Breeland POV, so he could be anything. They think almost everyone is a Southerner. In my game he was a Dunlander.

Ok, i think i will make him from Umbar, and tie him to a bigger conspiracy of spies and marauders.

How have you continued after the scenario site?

A couple of adventures of my own, semi-linked to some things that happened in Star In The Mist. I'm struggling, though, because I want to use Ruins of the Lost Realm, and I don't want to make up stuff that clashes with it.

.
If you have the TOR 1e Bree supplement, you could also tie him to Anna Wintermoss, the mysterious schoolmistress who arrived in Bree seemingly from the distant South a few years past, "pursued by strange men who chased her right to the end of Bree-land".

I agree with your approach and can remember that I have read the term Southerner in the books somewhere with the Dunlander explanation. So I handled it the same way as you did.

On page 230 it specifies that Sabian is from Umbar, though there is not much additional information about his purposes so it doesn't appear to have any bearing on the matter.
