And it didn't play out as I thought, obviously.
But my players were ecstatic, even though a strange NPC stole some of the spotlight. 3 sessions, 12 hours of action, almost all round to round game play... I thought that was a recipe for boredom and dice rolling saturation, but wasn't, apparently.
I checked in with my players, and they loved every minute of it, as did I. So here I try to look back and understand why that is.
