UNIT Symbols and coloured bars underneath

Thu 11 Nov 2021, 08:17

Question from a user on our Discord server about T2K 4e,

"question about the referee manual. There’s a page that shows NATO and PACT unit markers. Underneath each marker, there are red or yellow bars. Does anyone know what those bars represent? Is it unit effectiveness or something?"

Anyone?

I think it's the strength of the unit compared to original strength, with red being more understrength than yellow.

Yes, it's an indicator of the current combat effectiveness of the unit. Red is, well, not good. :) Yellow is better, not not great. Green is basically full strength, but I don't think you'll find any of those in Poland in the spring of 2000. :)

Red means effectively destroyed or combat ineffective, and I continue to be a little confused as to what that representation means in this context -- ie, almost every unit is red. Seems to me these would be updated to reflect present-day reality? Ie, a "division" with 2000 men is pretty beat up but compared to everyone else around...

I was the discord user in question, and I appreciate the information. Combat readiness state makes a ton of sense. With that said, why was the Poland map/units the only ones to get the treatment, and not also Sweden? Was this just an oversight in editing, or was there some other purpose?

Also, the colored markers do not seem to fully match the narrative texts. Is this due to maps being dated partially pre-Kalisz?
