That's the point. The 998 is the basic cargo/troop variant, not an armament carrier.

More for book models. As the pintle mounted machine gun is listed as the main armament, that means the single crewman drives the truck and operates the gun. It's not a secondary armament so it's not operable by a passenger.

In fact, the CUCV can't fit three passengers in its cab ... but there are 8 fold-down passenger seats in the truck bed, four on each side. So this is obviously a mess.

I'm pretty sure the Chevrolet CUCV has a full length seat in the cabin that can (technically) fit 3 people. Been a while since I've been in that cab though, so I may be remembering wrong or it's an issue of different models having different layouts.

It depends on variant; M1008 pickup, M1009 blazer, M1010 ambulance, etc. That said, 1+3 is pretty accurate if radios are installed in the Blazer/SUV type CUCVs. They take up a bit of the back seat.

Well, "CUCV" in Canadian army usage only ever meant one thing, which I guess was the M1008 pickup? It was a bench seat in the cab & 8 fold-down seats in the truck bed. This is where I think some common sense has to come into play with cargo vehicles -- though it would help if the rules would suggest how many people might ride in the truck bed, too.

I mean, they sort of do. Deuce and a halfs are 12 in the bed, 5 tons are 14 and HEMTT is a ridiculous number (the answer is always 0, for a crew rating of 1+2). The HEMTT bed does not have high enough walls or a low enough deck to reasonably carry personnel.

The CUCV, being defined as a pickup (so, the M1008), would be around 1+9, like an actual M998.

You can definitely fit a lot more than 12 guys in the back of a deuce.

Regardless, 12 is what it has seating for.
