MIGHT rolls for Monsters

Fri 05 Feb 2021, 20:19

Hello,
some monsters have to Roll for MIGHT without having the skill (like STONE GUARDIAN in Bitter Reach, attack 3 :
"The Stone Guardian tries to grab the opponent’s weapon. First, attack using eight Base Dice. The attack inflicts no damage, but if it succeeds, make an opposed MIGHT roll.")
There are other examples.
The Gamester's Guide says "The monster’s Strength is only used to determine how much damage the monster can take before it’s Broken."
So that brings a few questions :
What is the number of Dice of a Monster MIGHT roll without skill ? its current Strength score ? or its Strength initial value ?
Depending upon the answer, I imagine the MIGHT roll of a monster with Skill is the same + skill value.
Thanks for your help.

If anyone (including monsters) wants to use a skill that they don't have any skill levels in, you use the attribute only. So when a Stone Guardian roll for the Might skill, they use their Strength attribute (10).

Per the book, a monster's Strength value is never actually reduced, but only serves as a number of hits the creature can sustain before being Broken. So in your case, a MIGHT roll is made by using the monster's initial Strength value, even if its current is below that.
