Konungr: Like Paracelsus said, it's a matter of dosis. Also note that there are several different kinds of ”ye spagyric saltes”, some of them well established fertilizers, ammonium nitrate being one. You're right about the killing. The Romans for instance salted the lands of Carthage to render them useless.
