Necronomicon...ish for Forbidden Lands

Sat 11 Apr 2020, 21:18

So, if you would design Necronomicon (or maybe something slightly less potent), how would you do it, mechanically? I'd like to have something that is addictive to the user - compelling the user to sacrifice blood to the book to gain its bonuses. Ideas?

Well treat it first like any other spell book. The player should be making skill checks and spending time to study it.

Then have them hit a road block in their studies. This bit just doesnt quite make sense. You need x to make a break through. So you make them pay a little price. A little blood as material component for the spell.

Then they need to make a skill check to NOT use some blood for that spell. Something like wits + endurance maybe? The more they dive into the book, the deeper they go, the check should get more difficult. And when they fail that check not only do they have to use some blood but they take some empathy damage until they go nuts.
