Creatures in Corebook?

Fri 22 Nov 2019, 18:26

How many "Väsen" will be in the corebook? All 31 from Johan Egerkrans book? Many are included in the strechgoals (Sea Serpent, Mara, Brook Horse,...) so I guess, all would be fine. Or even more, like undead from his other book?

Found the table of contest in some videos:

I hope for all and then some additional ones or expanded species. The Undead will no be used for Vaesen, I believe FL has stated somewhere.

Personally I hope for extended parts on the more fearsome vaesen, such as trolls and the ones trying to drown you. The fairies and gnomes, while cute and part of the setting, needs to be ’adjusted’ to be playable and are probably better used in specific scenarios than just tiny ’monster of the week’ IMO - too whimsical and not that threatening otherwise.
Some creatures such as dragons and giants will also be hard to use in the game - but prove me wrong, FL!
I would also like to see ’explanation twists’ on behaviour and background, ie the common folk and fairy tales (as in Nordiska Vaesen) are not the truth - there is something else going on... much darker. Let the players believe that the fairy tales are true and chock them instead when they try their stupid tricks.

I can´t wait to give my players a hint, that a troll will bring chaos in some remote village. Sure, they will equip fire and acid, just to meet a hardly knee-high forest-dweller. :D

Guess, that the most part of the game is finding and luring the vaesen. Or finding a way to ban them.

I also hope that witches/warlocks/witchmasters will be part of the rules. They fit the setting.

Hello there! I really hope there will be scary monsters, if we are to play in a Sleepy Hollow/Cthulhu-like universe. Since they all are invisible to most humans, I don’t see why you couldn’t slip a giant or a dragon sometimes in your game, you just have to plan this carefully so that it’s not too preposterous.  ;)
Nevertheless, I hope there will be smaller scary monsters. A creature doesn’t need to be big to be scary.

And I even think creatures have to be scary to cause havok!

Egerkrans compare the Väsen to the japanese Yokai. These aren´t evil as such, they just have other needs and views of the world, which often interfere with the normal people. Sure an Oni is a massive ogre-like demon, but if you know them well, you´ll sure be able to reason with them.

The fairies and gnomes of swedish folklore are by no means cute or whimiscal. They are pretty terrifying.
