Starting Talents

Wed 07 Feb 2018, 22:08

Greetings, fellow raiders!

I had a question that some of the more knowledgeable persons that have played other Fria Ligan games in this forum may be able to answer for me.

In the Alpha, it states that characters typically start with one point in each Talent: one General, one Kin, and one Professional Talent, respectively (or alternately no General Talent, but two points in one of the other previously-listed Talents).

That section also has a list of (what appears to be) starting points for Talents, but that would be inconsistent with the rules above; in this case, only an Old character would have the 3 points necessary to allocate per the previous rule.

Some clarification of this point would be much appreciated, as would modification of that section in later releases for laypersons just dipping their toes into the Fria Ligan line of products. I love what I'm seeing so far from Forbidden Lands, and would very much like to recommend it to gamers of all experience levels when it receives a full release.

Many Thanks!

Hmmm, I find the text quite clear here:
At the start of the game, you get a number of talents that depend on you kin, your profession and your age:
✥ Your kin talent
✥ A professional talent of your choice
✥ A number of general talents of your choice depending on your age (see below)
It's right above the table, too.

What, then, is the purpose of the Talents by Age table on page 31?

What, then, is the purpose of the Talents by Age table on page 31?
To tell you how many general talents you start with.
So if you are adult you start wtih:
* One kin talent (doesn't have levels)
* One professional talent to level 1.
* Two general talents to level 1.
You are allowed to forego one of the general talents and instead increase one of your other talents to level 2 (not a kin talent since they don't have levels).

Excellent. Thank you for the clarification, Fenhorn.

I would highly suggest that the chart be labeled as such ("General Talents" vs just "Talents") if this topic is monitored by Fria Ligan staff.

I think this is where you're going wrong, because that's not actually what the text says. Nowhere does the text say you get only one General Talent.

IMO the text is very clear, but adding one additional word to the table can't hurt.
