Willpower

Sat 07 Oct 2017, 23:01

Very interested to see how Willpower will work. We know from recent updates that it will power not just magic, but also talents and the abilities of other classes. In terms of classes I think we can be sure that it will the primary currency for Spellbinders and Druids, and probably also musicians. Remains to be seen to what extent it is used for more hands on classes like the Fighter/Raider.

Similar story in terms of Talents - you could imagine it powering both more esoteric and arcane talents, and pretty hands on stuff (endurance, social and leadership related talents, animal friendship - who knows!)

We also know that you get Willpower through pushing so I imagine the mechanism will be similar to mutations from MY0 in that regard. The question is whether it will be as strict as MY0, or if there will also be other ways to gain Willpower - in particular for classes (Spellbinder, Druid) that may be more dependent on them.

I realise we will know in time, and that I am just speculating....

I could see it used for talents or abilities to add power to attacks or other skills, like how it is used in M:Y0. Look forward to seeing something more concrete as we move on.

Maybe there could be a class specific talent for Druids and Spellbinders that allows them to stock up more Willpower through meditation or rituals?

Like a multiplier, too. Instead of gaining one MP per push, they gain 2 or 3 per push and start the session with more.

"Ritualist" and "Well of Power", perhaps? May be to powerful in combination, so they could be made mutually exclusive?

WoP would function in the lines of what you wrote while Ritualist would allow you to gain a large amount of Willpower once per session. Sounds reasonable?

If we tier the talents the amounts could be increased incrementally like so:

WoP Tier 1: Gain 2 Willpower/push
WoP Tier 2: Gain 3 Willpower/push
WoP Tier 3: Gain 3 Willpower/push + 1(?) extra Willpower at start of session

Ritualist Tier 1: Gain 6 Willpower through meditation/ritual once per session
Ritualist Tier 2: Gain 6 Willpower through meditation/ritual twice per session
Ritualist Tier 3: Gain 8 Willpower through meditation/ritual twice per session

Just as an example, might need adjustments :)

Yes - something like that!

I know it may be a touch dark, but what I really liked in D20 Conan was that sorcery could be powered by human sacrifice....  A bit of a judgement call whether it fits the setting.

nah, keeping with the theme of the game, I would say, that the elves just sacrificed used their orc slaves as batteries, another reason for the "good" relations between the two races and gives orcs a more sad theme.
